Celebrating our Scholarship Winners: McKenzie Perushek

Fun fact! In 1991, the first Eveleth scholarship was awarded at $125. With the matching funds from the Minnesota Masonic Foundation, this made for one scholarship worth $250. Over the years, this amount has increased to $500. In 2015, Virginia Lodge #264 merged with us. They had also been offering annual scholarships. In continuing with their tradition again this year, the Eveleth Lodge offered a total of six scholarships, not for $500 each, but for $1,000 each! To date, we have awarded $39,600 to 78 scholarship recipients, not including the Band Scholarships. Let's meet this year's winners!

This week we are featuring McKenzie Perushek. McKenzie is the daughter of Lori Perushek of Eveleth. While in school, she was in the band, student council, and she was senior class secretary. She was a part of the Minnesota Honor Society, IRYA, the yearboook staff, and the track teams, along with flags and poms. She volunteered her time at youth volleyball and basketball practices, on mission trips, church breakfasts, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, and highway cleanups.

McKenzie will be attending the College of St. Scholastica, taking courses to become a registered nurse. This field attracts her as she has a strong desire to help and interact with others. She wants to obtain a job in a neonatal intensive care unit, to help pursue her goal of becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist. Congratulations McKenzie! We wish you the best of luck in your future.
