Scholarship Recipient: Maggie McHugh
Maggie McHugh is the daughter of Laura and Patrick McHugh of Minneapolis. While attending Washburn High School she was on the Student Council, in the National Honor Society and in the Leadership Council, volunteered with the High School Yearbook and took part in Racial Equality Training. Maggie was active in sports, particularly volleyball, being named Impact Player of the Year in 2022. She actively volunteered her time to the sport as well. She was the founder of the High School Pickle ball Club and an open championship Irish Dancer. Maggie helps support and care for a brother with learning disabilities. She worked with other students to create the Minneapolis Lily Project, which was a mural spreading awareness of social justice.
During her senior year, Maggie was on the honor roll, the National Honor Society leadership council, and she organized and spoke at the induction ceremony for the National Honors Society. She helped organize several volunteering opportunities for NHS. She helped plan homecoming and the winter dance. Maggie plans on attending the George Washington University in Washington D.C. to study political science and journalism. She hopes then to attend law school. Maggie is the granddaughter of lodge member Ed Vest and wife Carolyn. Congratulations, Maggie, and good luck in your next steps!
